2012 Keynote Speakers

  Dr. James J. Duderstadt is President Emeritus at the University of Michigan. His most recent publication is titled “A Master Plan for Higher Education in the Midwest: A Roadmap for the Future of the Nation’s Heartland,” which was released on March 31 by the Chicago Council for Global Affairs and published as one of the council’s Heartland Papers, which focuses on development in the Midwest. 
  Dr. Barbara Jacoby is Senior Scholar for the Adele H. Stamp Student Union–Center for Campus Life at the University of Maryland, College Park. She facilitates initiatives involving academic partnerships and civic engagement and serves as Faculty Associate for Leadership and Community Service-Learning. In addition, she is Senior Scholar for the National Clearinghouse for Commuter Programs. 
Dr. Jacoby's publications include six books her most recent being Looking In, Reaching Out: A Reflective Guide for Community Service-Learning (with Pamela Mutascio, Campus Compact, 2010)

  Dr. Randy Stoecker earned both a BA and MS from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Upon receiving his Ph.D., he became an Assistant Professor at the University of Toledo, where he was involved in working with neighborhood organizations, helping them do strategic planning, conduct needs assessments, and evaluate their impact. Since July of 2005, he has been working as a Professor in the Department of Community and Environmental Sociology at the University of Wisconsin, with a joint appointment in the Center for Community and Economic Development.  This position has taken him into expanded work in academy-community partnerships and community leadership development.
  Holger Wagner is a development and humanitarian aid practitioner currently working for Oxfam in Nairobi as a country funding coordinator for Somalia. Since graduating from Northern Michigan University in 1997, Holger has been living in Africa with a short break in the early 2000s when he pursued a Master’s degree at American University in Washington, DC. During his years at NMU, Holger participated in and graduated from the two-year Student Leader Fellowship Program (SLFP) and credits the SLFP with giving him the essential ingredients to mold an inner compass founded on care, compassion, courage and curiosity. His present work focuses on funding and program development in Somalia, emphasizing local capacity-building, sustainable livelihoods, child protection, and vocational training.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to pay for parking?

No. If you stay overnight at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center, they will give you a parking pass. If you are not staying overnight, just visit the registration desk and ask for a parking pass.

Am I able to register onsite?

Yes. We will accept onsite registrations. The fee for onsite registration will be raised, therefore we encourage everyone to register ahead of time.

Am I able to purchase tickets for the Awards Ceremony and Dinner onsite?

There will not be any onsite tickets available for purchase for the Awards Ceremony and Dinner. We encourage everyone to purchase these tickets ahead of time.

Is there a charge for the Sunday evening reception?

No. The receptions is our way of welcoming you to the conference.

What is there to do in the area?

Michigan Campus Compact thanks all participants for their understanding through this year’s unexpected Institute cancellation due to severe weather.  A modified Institute was held at the Comfort Inn for those who did make it to the Mount Pleasant area.
