MCC Seeks College Coaching Corps AmeriCorps Members

AmeriCorps LogoThe Mentor Michigan College Coaching Corps is a joint effort between Michigan Campus Compact and Mentor Michigan. The MMCCC will place AmeriCorps members within youth mentoring organizations or institutions of higher education. The goal of this program is to increase the number of youth served through mentoring relationships and to develop "college-going" cultures within local communities. Members placed within institutions of higher education will create a "college-going" culture by engaging in the following service activities:

 

  • Training college students to be College Positive Volunteers
  • Building community partnerships among K-12 schools, community-based organizations, and their host campus
  • Creating college-focused community activities
  • Developing and disseminating resources related to college access to members placed within youth mentoring organizations
  • Increase community awareness of the fact that higher education can be accessed by all

Benefits
Benefits of serving as a College Coaching Corps AmeriCorps member include:

  • An annual living stipend of $11,800 (pre-tax) paid twice per month;
  • Standard AmeriCorps Member health care coverage through The Corps Network;
  • Income-eligible childcare assistance;
  • Ongoing professional development and networking opportunities;
  • Participation in a statewide project dedicated to building the future of Michigan’s youth;
  • Education Award of $5,350 to pay for college, graduate school, or to pay back qualified student loans (pending completion of a minimum 1700 hours of service over a 12 month period.); and,
  • Forbearance on qualified student loans.
