Renee Miller Zientek

Renee worked for the University of Michigan-Flint for a total of 10 years.  She served as a Director of Service-Learning and School Partnerships from 1994-1999 and was the founder of  the first service-learning program on that campus.  She was awarded of  the UM-Flint Staff Recognition Award and has been a nominee for an Athena Award of the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce.  Other professional positions held by Renee include, Director of Health and Fitness for the YWCA of Greater Flint and Budget Analyst for the Cadillac Luxury Car Division.

Since 2005, Renee has served as a director, executive director, and assistant vice chancellor for various units including Institutional Advancement, University Outreach, Alumni Relations, University Special Events, and Corporate and Foundation Relations.  Raising funds for engagement work and supporting faculty, staff, and students through multiple programs, projects, and initiatives have advanced the University of Michigan-Flint’s mission of being an engaged campus.
Renee has and has provided leadership to the Flint River Corridor Alliance, Keep Genesee County Beautiful, City of Flint, Community Foundation, and several other key mid-Michigan partners.

Renee is an UM-Flint Alum and a Flint native. 

Marilyn Beardslee

Marilyn Beardslee

Marilyn is the current Access and Success VISTA at Michigan Campus Compact.  She serves as a liaison between Michigan Campus Compact and its member campuses with a primary focus in state-wide college access initiatives. Marilyn graduated from Spring Arbor University in 2010 with degrees in Psychology and Sociology.  While in college, she was involved in several alternative spring break trips, traveled cross-culturally to Guatemala, and interned with a local non-profit organization.

Mary Estrada

Mary Estrada has worked with ConnectMichigan Alliance, Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA), Michigan Campus Compact (MCC), Volunteer Centers of Michigan (VCM) and the Michigan LEAGUE since November 2002. During these six years, the roles held have been in several capacities from Program Coordinator for Michigan’s Promise to the Events and Logistics Coordinator for VCM and MCC. Mary came to this organization after retiring from the state of Michigan with over 30 years experience in several different state departments. Mary’s last twelve years was working at the Michigan Community Service Commission.

Ashley Gulker

Ashley graduated from Spring Arbor University with degrees in Psychology and Christian Ministry.  While in college, she traveled cross-culturally to the Middle East, was active as a student leader, and interned with both nonprofit and governmental organizations.  As Program Specialist, Ashley assists Michigan Campus Compact and Volunteer Centers of Michigan by supporting constituents and programs, along with coordinating and conducting special initiatives and projects.

Geoff Hickox

Geoff Hickox is from Okemos, Michigan and recently graduated from Grand Valley State University with a degree in Public & Nonprofit Administration.  While at GVSU, Geoff was actively involved in various service initiatives, including sitting on the Executive Board for the Alternative Break program for three years.  Geoff also completed an internship at GVSU’s Community Service Learning Center.  As an MCC Americorps*VISTA, he focuses on developing lifelong engagement by linking, and streamlining  the work of the LEAGUE Michigan, the Volunteer Centers of Michigan, and Michigan Campus Compact.

Rachel Klegon

Rachel Klegon

Rachel manages the AmeriCorps * VISTA program for Michigan Campus Compact and Volunteer Centers of Michigan. She works closely with the VISTA members and their host site supervisors as well as providing a link to the state office. Rachel graduated from Michigan State University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications. After graduating, she moved to Detroit to become a Michigan AmeriCorps Partnership member, where she worked with the Woodbridge Neighborhood Development Corporation and Summer In The City. After completing one term of AmeriCorps, Rachel worked as the Clean and Safe Program Manager for the East Warren Avenue Business Association, which is on the East Side of Detroit.

Shelley Long

Shelley Long

Shelley Long has been working with Michigan Campus Compact as the Executive Assistant since February of 2006.  She works directly with Amy Smitter, scheduling her meetings and appointments, as well as with the Executive Director of the Volunteer Centers of Michigan.  She maintains constituent databases, coordinates constituent mailings, plans leadership meetings, and assists with the coordination of colloquiums and conferences.  Shelley has attended both Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Western Michigan University.

Michelle Snitgen

Michelle Snitgen

Michelle is the Assistant Director for Grant Programs for MCC. She trains and provides support to grantees, member campuses, and community partners. Michelle has most recently been working at the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan as a Wish Manager. She has a Master's degree in Interpersonal and Public Communication from Central Michigan University and instructed classes at CMU. She obtained a B.A. from CMU in Communication and French. Michelle has presented at national faculty discipline conferences and has participated in numerous volunteer activities.

Mel Strapec graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in Interpersonal & Public Communication. She was actively involved in the Communication Association at CMU, as well as coaching cheerleading at Mount Pleasant High School during her years in college. She recently served as the Strategic Initiatives VISTA at Michigan Campus Compact, where she worked on communication and outreach for the events, programs and trainings ran by MCC. Mel now serves at the Michigan Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader. 

Shannon Zoet

Shannon Zoet

Shannon supports service learning and civic engagement initiatives for college students by working with MCC’s member campuses around the state. She has been connected with MCC since her service as an MCC AmeriCorps*VISTA at Jackson Community College from 2004 to 2006. She established and coordinated the Office of Service Learning and Civic Engagement at JCC. Shannon earned her Master of Public Administration degree from Grand Valley State University in 2009, emphasizing in Nonprofit Management and Leadership. She also has a BA in Communications from GVSU.
